Three Appliances You May Want Added To Your Plumbing System
In the simplest of plumbing systems, water flows into your home and then directly to your sinks, tubs, and toilets. This works just fine for a lot of people. However, if you are unhappy with the quality of the water that is coming out of your faucets, you may want to hire a plumber to install an extra appliance or two. The water will then flow through an appliance or two before making its way to your faucets and taps. So, what appliances should you be considering?
Water Softener
This is the first water treatment appliance many people have installed. Hard water is really common throughout the United States. Water that is described as hard simply contains a high concentration of dissolved calcium and magnesium. Signs you have hard water include:
- Scale buildup on your taps and faucets
- Soap and shampoo don't lather well
- White or cloudy spots on glasses and dinnerware
A water softener will remove these extra minerals from your water. This has a number of benefits. You won't have to worry about mineral deposits on your faucets or inside your pipes. You won't have to use as much shampoo, soap, or laundry detergent, and your skin will stay softer and smoother.
Water Filter
If your water has an odd taste or you're worried that it contains too much chlorine, then you may want to install a water filter in your home. You can have the plumber place the filter so that only water that flows to your kitchen sink flows through it. Or you can have all of the water flow through it. Many homeowners take the second option because they want to make sure they are showering and washing their hands in purified water. Water filters can remove everything from chlorine to heavy metals and bacteria.
Water Chiller
What if the water that comes out of your "cold" taps is room temperature or a little warm? This is an especially common issue in warmer climates. Your plumber can install a water chiller, which is basically like a big refrigerator that your water flows through before flowing to your cold water taps. As with a filter, you can have all of your cold water run through this appliance, or you can have the water for certain taps run through it.
